Sugar final header

sugar. for our little treats.

Sugar is a key ingredient as it delivers sweet taste, enhances the taste of other ingredients, while also providing structure and texture balancing our treats’ taste experience.

How we process our sugar

At Kinder we mostly use sucrose in our recipes, we use both beet and cane sugar.
Both beets and sugar canes are harvested and delivered to our suppliers’ processing factories, where their juice, rich in sugars, is extracted.

This juice is then filtered and heated to remove water so that small crystals are formed and become bigger and more numerous as the product is cooled.

The crystals are then separated from the syrup in a centrifuge, washed and dried to become the sugar we all recognize and use every day.

When the sugar arrives in our factories, we conduct thorough quality tests to verify the size and purity of the crystals before we use them in our recipes.

Sucrose is used in all Kinder recipes. We also use other sugars to give an extra special touch to some of our products, such as dextrose in Kinder Pinguì and in the decoration of Kinder Paradiso and glucose syrup in Kinder Schoko-Bons. We also use glucose-fructose syrup, in small quantities, in Kinder Delice, Kinder Paradiso and Kinder Pinguì, where it helps in making the dough even softer.

Sugar part 2 final

Kinder only sources from selected suppliers that grow non-GMO (non-genetically modified) sugar beet and sugar cane.

We have a long-standing commitment to build strong, trusting relationships with the agricultural cooperatives and producers that supply our sugar. All our sugarcane is Bonsucro-certified. Bonsucro is a global membership organisation that promotes sustainable sugarcane production, processing and trade around the world. We have been members since 2010.

Bonsucro works to build a sugarcane sector with thriving, sustainable producer communities and resilient supply-chains. Its mission is to ensure that responsible sugarcane production creates lasting value for the people, communities, businesses, economies and eco-systems involved. In 2014, Ferrero Group was the first to receive the “Leadership Award” from Bonsucro for its active participation in the development of a sustainable sugar cane industry. To learn more, visit here.
